This Court of Appeal decision heralds a significant breakthrough in challenging the wholly inadequate provision of Legal Aid for victims of abuse since LAPSO came into force.

The majority of my clients who are or have been victims of domestic abuse have little to no evidence available and would not satisfy the current criteria despite the severity of abuse suffered by them.

It is also beyond belief that victims who have managed to flee a dangerous relationship and may not have had contact with their ex for several years, would not qualify for legal aid during later proceedings that arise simply due to the passing of time.

Common sense finally prevails!
